Today on 11.12.2021 there was a fatal avalanche accident which occurred in outlying terrain on the northern flank of the Venet south of Zams. Several persons were caught by a slab avalanche. One person was not able to be rescued, his body was salvaged in the course of a large-scale search operation. Two persons were injured.
Together with the Alpine Police, we will carry out a thorough accident analysis on-site tomorrow, 12.12, and publish the results presently in a blog.
According to the latest standing of our information, signs point to a combined problem: snowdrifts plus a persistent weak layer. Avalanche prone locations are currently found frequently even in the secured ski slope zones.
